Summer Program

Churchill Summer Day Camp 2023

Our Program
The Churchill Summer Day Camp is a five-week-long camp program where children in elementary and middle school will have the chance to participate in a variety of engaging camp activities throughout their day. We will also be offering literacy activities and instruction throughout the summer for those who wish to have their children participate.
Our Staff
The Churchill Summer Day Camp will be run, led, and taught by Churchill School teachers with the assistance of Churchill's high school students and alumni. They will be providing a structured day to our campers. There will also be specialists on hand to help keep the students engaged with activities like arts and crafts, sports, STEM, and more!
A Day at Camp
The morning will start off with arrival beginning at 8:00 AM, followed by a spirited morning assembly. After, the campers will go off to enjoy different camp activities that will rotate on a daily basis. As an option for our families, our schedule will also offer instructional academics. Those campers will take part in Reading Comprehension & Decoding lessons over the summer. In the afternoon, students will enjoy a variety of options we’re aiming to offer such as more sports, arts and crafts, yoga, STEM fun, trips to the parks, and more! It is our intention to include swim time into our schedule. We are in search of a pool to rent out that we can use for our camp. Then at the end of the day, campers will be picked up by 4:00 PM.
We ask that campers be dropped off and picked up as we will not be offering transportation this year. We will offer early arrival to help families at an extra cost.
Theme Weeks and Special Events
No camp would be complete without theme days and special events to make it more fun. Look forward to events like Halloween at Camp, Crazy Hat Day, Camp Olympics, and more! Here’s a sample of our theme calendar from last year to get an idea of what to expect. This year will be a little different to keep things fresh!

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • Where does the camp happen?

Right here, at the Churchill School and Center!
  • Will you be offering Early Arrival and After Care services?

We will continue to have early arrival at 7:30 AM, however we will not continue After Care due to multiple factors.
  • What age group will my child be in?

Our camp has three main age groups that we call “Nests”; Owls (K-2), Eagles (2-4), and Hawks (4-6). While there is some overlap between them, we may move campers around based on reading levels for literacy work so they’re with peers at the same levels as them.
  • What does the literacy work entail?

Every week, each "nest" of students receive 7 sessions of literacy. The focus is on decoding, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing. They also target specific skills throughout the weeks of camp, such as inferencing, summarizing, and literary elements.
Due to the range of ages and learning needs of each nest, the teachers provide direct instruction in smaller groups as well all whole class instruction (usually rooted in an activity). When in small groups for direct instruction, the teachers are using elements of the programs Wilson, Rewards, and Fundations to build decoding and comprehension skills.
Since this is a summer camp setting and not an academic day program, the objective of our literacy sessions is to prevent summer regression while also ensuring opportunities for ongoing skill building. The teachers will not be conducting diagnostic progress monitoring.
  • Will there be swim time?

Yes. An indoor pool has been secured to provide swim time for our campers.
  • What is the cancellation policy?

In order to receive some form of a refund, you must cancel by June 15, 2023. After that, there will be no refunds at all.
  • What are the registration deadlines?

Early Bird Registration deadline: Dec 15, 2022.
Final registrations and payment in full due no later than May 31, 2023
