Churchill School Library

The Emily H. Fisher Library is at the center of the Churchill School community. This is where our students learn to become independent information seekers and life-long readers. Our library provides a comfortable and supportive learning environment for students to study, meet in small groups to discuss assignments, conduct research using print or digital resources, or read independently.

The Library’s collection is now more than 22,000 volumes. It includes books, e-books, audio books, magazines, periodicals, newspapers, and numerous online databases. The research databases, online encyclopedias and dictionaries, as well as the library catalogue, are available to Churchill students and faculty from both school and home.

Elementary School Library

Elementary students enjoy weekly library classes which promote a love of reading and cultivate the skills necessary for exploring each student's interests. In close collaboration with the Technology Integrators and the classroom teachers, students learn to navigate and evaluate print and online resources for research, share their thoughts about books they’ve read with the school community, and organize their creative impulses into stories. Professional authors, illustrators, poets and storytellers are invited to speak to students several times each year.

Middle and High School Library

The Middle and High School Library provides a welcoming and comfortable environment where students are encouraged to choose independent reading books and learn to develop research skills necessary to complete their class assignments. The Upper School librarian, collaborating with the content area teachers, is always available to assist students in developing focused research questions, identifying and searching for appropriate resources, critically evaluating information and citing their sources. Each year the Upper School Librarian invites well-known authors, poets, and illustrators to meet with our Middle School Students.

Mission

The goal of the Emily H. Fisher Library at the Churchill School is to help our students become more active, engaged readers and learners.  Our mission is to enhance learning and the enjoyment of literature through the effective use of ideas and information.  The library program provides students with access to literature, information, and resource materials in many formats.  We prepare students to access, evaluate, organize, and present ideas and information at levels expected of all New York State students.

Library Hours

The library is open from 8 AM to 4:00 PM every day. Library materials may be checked out during those hours.

Students are welcome to do their homework, study alone, or meet in small study groups in the Library until it closes.
